Abilitree’s Mission is Meaningful to me Because…
it changes lives. Abilitree provides people supports that help them gain more control over their lives. Part of how they do this is by teaching skills and requiring client initiative in their interactions. The idea isn’t just to serve and help but to empower so that clients can improve and expand their experiences in the world.

I’ve devoted most of my life to…
pursuing adventure and learning. My parents instilled in me a love of the outdoors and travel and the importance of giving back to my community. I have lived in 3 countries and 4 states, love hiking and biking and sharing the world with my kids. Lately you would find me reading the New York Times, Wired Magazine and anything about the stock market and our economy.

I am inspired by…
people who break down walls and stereotypes. They show us how diverse humanity is and why we shouldn’t limit others or ourselves to preconceived notions. As a young adult I admired Martina Navratilova, one of the first athletes to come out as gay and continue her successful tennis career into her late 40’s.

My secret superpower is…
doing jigsaw puzzles. Last winter, I finally found a piece of cardboard big enough to contain a 5,000 piece puzzle of the Sistine Chapel my sister-in-law had given me years before. I doggedly worked it through to the finish on hands and knees on the floor.

One thing the community may not know about Abilitree is…
the staff are successful at what they do because of their passion for helping others. They strive to educate themselves and serve as subject matter experts in supporting clients and sharing knowledge outside the organization.
