Abilitree’s Mission is Meaningful to me Because…
it speaks to the common value and worth that rests in all of us. Abilitree creates a framework to help people identify and aspire to a sense of purpose and belonging in both simple and sublime ways. I think through co-laboring through that journey, we affirm the value of everyone involved in the process: the recipients of our programs, the staff that facilitates the relationships, and the Central Oregon community that rallies around the cause. Those sparks, interactions, and moments that bring us closer to each other ultimately bring us closer to an understanding of ourselves and our place in this world. That’s magic.

I’ve devoted most of my life to…
my family. This year I passed a milestone – I’ve officially been a father now for more time than I’ve been untethered. My kids and my wife give me a reason to dig deep and leave the world better than I found it.

I am inspired by…
all of the crazy smart people that I get to interact with, and their remarkable patience with me.

My secret superpower is…
the ability to connect people and ideas that need connecting.  Every now and then I get to be the conduit to bring things together that should be together and then I get to step back and watch remarkable things happen. Also, I can jump higher than most of the buildings in downtown Bend (because most of the buildings in downtown Bend can’t jump).  Oh, and I’ve got an infinite supply of dad jokes.

One thing the community may not know about Abilitree is…
their advocacy programs!  I was familiar with Abilitree’s day support and employment activities, but I had no idea they were powerful advocates for people trying to navigate the complexity of bureaucracy.  Many of the systems intended to help people end up alienating them, so it’s great that our staff helps to demystify the process.
